Introduction

BlackFrame is an initiative aimed at promoting the visibility and community of Black artists in the UK animation industry.

In an industry where Black representation is both rare and essential, BlackFrame provides a vital platform for building relationships, sharing experiences, and creating new opportunities for Black professionals.

Whether you’re a senior freelancer or just starting your journey in animation, you’ll have the chance to network with professionals across the industry of all levels.

Founded by Amy Ashton & Niya Taylor, BlackFrame is supported by award-winning studios and organisations who are aligned with diversifying the creative industries: The British Blacklist, Nexus, Jelly, Passion, Strange Beast, The Kusp, BLACQ Space.

What We Do

Our events are an opportunity to meet and engage with fellow Black producers, directors, animators, 2D / CG crew and more, in a space dedicated to fostering collaboration and community.
As BlackFrame continues to grow, our output will be guided by the needs of the Black artists in the industry. /or/  With an industry as broad & ever changing as animation, the community will act as our anchor.

In taking a ‘For Us, By Us’ approach, our events are informed by and in service to the people who make up the BlackFrame community:

Networking Socials: Whether it’s a cathartic conversation or your next collaboration, we want to foster a space where Black professionals can connect with intention and find new opportunities in a meaningful, considered way

Portfolio Reviews & Careers Advice:
Knowledge is power so we facilitate sessions for creative feedback and development from established artists in the BF community and with the support of prolific, award-winning studios.

Screenings & Showcases: We want to put a spotlight on the variety and wealth of films from Black artists, filmmakers and crew through independent screenings & festival programmes.

Talks & Workshops: Sharing your skills & creative process is not only inspiring & insightful, it gives our community the opportunity to engage with talent in a safe space.
